son-x grows up and exits with Edmund Optics
I can't help reading this as son of x - so whose the father: Fraunhofer I guess?!
US-based Edmund Optics, a global manufacturer and supplier of optical components and assemblies, has acquired son-x, a high-tech leader in ultrasonic assist systems and high precision optics manufacturing.
son-x was founded in 2011 in Aachen, Germany and is spin-off out of Fraunhofer.
The idea is to enhance Edmund Optics’ diamond turning capabilities and strengthen its position as a partner in delivering solutions to customers worldwide.
son-x has developed a pioneering ultrasonic-assisted diamond turning technology and redefined precision optics production worldwide. Edmund Optics will be able provide multi-axis machined (up to 5 axis) high complex surfaces from 1 mm up to 1 meter.
"We are thrilled to welcome son-x to the Edmund Optics family," said Marisa Edmund, Chief Executive Office and Chairman of the Board. "This acquisition is a great partnership that aligns perfectly with our mission to become a provider for high precision solutions in optics and photonics and together, we will achieve even greater success for our customers and stakeholders."
"Joining Edmund Optics marks an exciting new strategic chapter for son-x," added Dr Olaf Dambon, co-founder and Managing Director of son-x. "By combining our high precision diamond turning capabilities with Edmund Optics’ global reach and investment plans, we can accelerate innovation and deliver even greater precision and value to our customers around the world."
